We believe in God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit who are each fully God.

We believe that the Bible (Old & New Testaments) is the written word of God, inspired by God, and therefore fully trustworthy and having supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

We believe in having a personal relationship with God. This is made possible through the death of Jesus on the cross and his resurrection.

We believe that Jesus will come again.

2 Timothy chapter 3 verse 16 (The Message)

There's nothing like the written Word of God for  showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another - showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God's way.

What is a Christian?

A Christian is someone who believes that God came to the Earth as Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man,

who realises that he is a sinner (has done bad things in his life),

who accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour,

who lives in a relationship with God, relying on the power of the Holy Spirit.

John chapter 3 verse 16 (NIV)

(Jesus said) "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Over the years Christians have expressed their beliefs in various ways. The early Christians used the sign of the fish to declare their faith.

The letters of the Greek word for fish - "ICTHUS" were used as an acrostic creed or statement of belief.

I = Jesus

C = Christ

TH = Of God

Y = The Son

S = Saviour

This summarises the fundamental truths of Christianity.

The cross has become the essential symbol of Christianity, because Jesus' death on the cross was the supreme demonstration of God's love for humanity, and the only means by which imperfect human beings can become perfect and enter into an everlasting relationship with God.

2 Corinthians chapter 5 verse 21 (Living Bible)

For God took the sinless Christ and poured into him our sins. Then, in exchange, He poured God's goodness into us.

The Apostle's creed is a more detailed summary of what Christians believe.

I believe in God the Father Almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ,

God's only Son, our Lord

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again,

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

and the holy catholic Church,*

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sin,

the resurrection of the body,

the life everlasting.

Amen

(* "holy catholic Church" refers to the universal or worldwide body of all true Christians.)
