Revelation 5:8

And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

Helen Higson & Penny Peet invite everyone to join them on

Thursdays from 9 -10am for a time of prayer.

Maybe, if you are unable to get to church at that time, you would consider uniting your prayers with ours at that time wherever you are!

There is so much in our lives, our community and in the world which needs prayer - but so often we turn to prayer as a last resort.

Jesus promised us that whatever we bring before Him in prayer will be answered.

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks the door will be opened. "

Matthew 7:7,8

There is a board with 'post-it' notes & pencils outside church during our time of prayer. Anyone passing may add their prayers or concerns for prayer.

There is also a bowl mounted on the wall in the foyer of church throughout the week for anyone to add their prayers or prayer needs.

All papers are treated completely confidential and will be shredded at the end of each Thursday prayer group meeting.

If you have a prayer need and can't get to church why not contact us by email and we will include it during our prayer time.

At TGI Sunday before we pray, we put on the armour of God, acting out placing each piece of the armour on ourselves. This helps focus our minds on what we are doing and is a great way to remember the various pieces of the armour of God!

As Christians we aught to put on the armour each day to give us protection on a daily basis.

Ephesians 6:10-18

Finally, be strong in  the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

Why not see some of the things the Bible has to say about prayer.

James 5:13-16

Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

Philippians 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Romans 8:26

We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.

Romans 12:12

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Romans 1:9,10

God, who I serve with my whole heart in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you in my prayers at all times.

Prayers

The Lords Prayer

Our father, who art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy name;

Thy kingdom come;

Thy will be done;

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who have trespassed against us.

And lead us not into temptation;

But deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

The power and the glory

For ever and ever

Amen

The Methodist Covenant Prayer

I am no longer my own but yours.

Your will, not mine, be done in all things,

wherever you may place me,

in all that I do

and in all that I endure;

when there is work for me

and when there is none;

when I am troubled

when I am at peace.

Your will be done

when I am valued

and when I am disregarded;

when I find fulfilment

and when its lacking;

when I have all things,

and when I have nothing.

I willingly offer

all I have and am

to serve you,

as and where you choose

Glorious and blessed God,

Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

you are mine and I am yours.

May it be so forever

Let this covenant now made on earth

be fulfilled in heaven

Amen

Prayers of St Francis of Assisi

You are holy, Lord, the only God,

and your deeds are wonderful.

You are strong .

You are great.

You are the Most High,

You are almighty.

You, holy Father, are

King of heaven and earth

You are Three and One

Lord God, all good.

You are Good, all Good, supreme Good

Lord God, living and true.

You are love,

You are wisdom.

You are humility,

You are endurance.

You are rest,

You are peace.

You are joy and gladness.

You are justice and moderation.

You are all our riches,

And you suffice form us.

You are beauty.

You are gentleness.

You are our protector,

You are our guardian and defender.

You are courage.

You are our heaven and our hope.

You are our faith,

Our great consolation.

You are our eternal life,

Great and wonderful Lord,

God almighty,

Merciful Saviour.

Make me a channel of Your peace.

Where there is hatred let there be love;

where there is injury,

you're pardon Lord;

and where there's doubt, true faith in you.

Oh Master grant that I may never seek

so much to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to under stand;

to be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace.

When there's despair in life let me bring hope;

Where there is darkness only light;

and where there's sadness ever joy.

Make me a channel of Your peace.

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned

In giving to all men that we receive,

and in dying that we're brought to eternal life.

A prayer of St Patrick

Christ, be with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,

Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,

Christ on my right, Christ on my left,

Christ where lie, Christ where I sit, Christ where I arise,

Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,

Christ in every eye that sees me,

Christ in every ear that hears me.

Salvation is of the Lord,

Salvation is of the Lord,

Salvation is of the Christ,

May your salvation, O Lord, be ever with us.

George Appleton

O God of many names

Lover of all nations

We pray for peace

in our hearts

in our homes

in our nations

in our world

The peace of your will

The peace of our need.

Sinners Prayer

Heavenly Father I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life

Please forgive me

I now turn from everything which I know is wrong.

Thank you that you sent Your Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for me so that I could be forgiven and set free.

From now on I will follow and obey him as my Lord.

Thank you that you now offer me this gift of forgiveness and your Spirit.

I now receive that gift.

Please come into my life by your Holy Spirit to be with me forever.

Through Jesus Christ, our Lord

Amen
