TGI Sunday stands for Thank God It's Sunday.

This service began in January 2006 and God has really blessed it. Our first service had 18 people in the congregation, we now have around 30-35 and have even had up to 54 for our special services.

Two services are never the same. However each service is for all ages and 'Family Friendly' lasting around 45 minutes, being interactive, having a combination of lively worship songs and moving at a fast pace.

This year the services are based around a letter of the alphabet and the ten commandments, the message being delivered throughout the whole service.

We do not have a formal sermon but the message is given as a series of 2,3 or even 4 short talks. These are all based on Biblical principles and we try to apply them to every day life.

We believe that it is essential to follow the teaching of the Bible, and so we incorporate a memory verse into every service.

On Sunday at 9:15am we begin with a time of worship singing songs before the service. The service begins at 9:30am and finishes around 10:15am.

To find out more about TGI Sunday email us at contactus@howdenmethodistchurch.co.uk

We try to make the talks at TGI as interactive as possible.

The talks use quizzes, visual aids, tricks and many other means to get the Gospel Message across.

Kevin first came to TGI in May 2006. at first he came on his own but he enjoyed it so much that he soon brought his friend sally.

Since then Shaun the Sheep has also made an appearance.

Kevin enjoys coming to TGI - his daft antics often raise a smile and bring the Gospel message home.

We try to make the bible accessible and do this by using modern as well as traditional translations of the bible.

We have told bible stories with congregation participation, using plays and monologues and with 'Godly Play'.

Godly Play tells a Bible Story using a felt cloth as the story board and various models introduced from a closed box. It stimulates reflective thoughts and deeper questioning with the phrase "I wonder?"

It is said that Methodism was 'born in song'. At TGI we love to sing our praise to God.

We enjoy the good old traditional hymns and also the more modern worship songs.

Our main source of music is from Songs of Fellowship volumes 1, 2 & 3, but we also use Junior Praise, Kids Source 1 & 2, The Source 1, 2 & 3 and many others!

At TGI we try to cater for everyone.

The younger members of our congregation don't always like to sit for 45 minutes and so we have a play area and craft table at the back of the church.

We try to make the crafts follow the theme of the service and at the end make sure they are displayed on the wall in church.

People think that 'family friendly' worship is worship for children. They think that the teaching and the message of the service are for children with the adults being observers rather than participants.

At TGI we don't believe this. As part of God's family there is something for everyone, from the youngest baby to the oldest grandparent. We have found that everyone enjoys hearing the 'Gospel Message' presented simply in a fun and relaxed way.

Here's what some of our congregation have said:

"It's like water in the desert... so refreshing."

Exodus 20:12

Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days a week are set apart for your daily duties and regular work, but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any kind of work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. For in six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; then he rested on the seventh day. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.

Honour your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God will give you.
